This middle of the road strategy shines through in Klobuchar’s approach to policy as well, telling house party attendees that she views gun control legislation through the lens of “does it hurt my Uncle Dick in the deer stand”, and arguing that she can secure Midwestern buy-in on the party’s effort to combat climate change.

“We have a lot of support from the coast for acting aggressively on climate change, not so much in the middle of the country,” said Klobuchar. “I can make the case of what we’re seeing in the middle of the country — the tornadoes, we are seeing weird weather events, we are seeing raging wildfires, including firefighters that are dying in Arizona, or we’re seeing what we saw in just the last few months with those floods in Iowa, and in Missouri and Nebraska.”
