He drew big cheers talking about the need for the U.S to resume its role as a global leader on climate change, saying that the U.S. alone cannot make enough changes to avert the rapidly unfolding crisis and the threats of increasingly severe weather events.

“If it warms another degree Celsius going forward, we are screwed — that is the term the scientists use,” O’Rourke quipped, adding that “even if we all band together in the face of this threat and this challenge, it’s not going to be enough. It’s going to take the world.”
